Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX Desktop Computer Review

Looking for a good desktop computer? Perhaps you want to be able to play the latest games or run demanding applications.

Well, the Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX may just be the system you're looking for. This system has specs so powerful it will knock your socks off. We're talking about two 512 MB graphics cards to give the fastest 3D performance ever!

Let's have a look at this powerful system in this article.

CPU and Memory

The Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX has a dual-core processor overclocked to 2.9 GHz (the stock configuration is 2.6 GHz). This makes it more than a match for FX-57 systems, which have a single core and a 2.8-GHz stock configuration speed.

The Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX comes with an installed 1 GB RAM. That is plenty of memory to allow you to play the latest 3D games and run the most intensive applications at fast speeds.

Case

The Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX looks really good. It is housed in a silver case and has a see-through window to let you view what's the hot stuff inside.

The internal liquid cooling system is very nicely setup. The internals like wire routing and component placement are all very well done.

Graphics

The dual 512 MB graphics cards in the Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX indeed a main draw of this system. 3D games these days call for an obscene amount of graphics horsepower - and the Raptor 64 meets those requirements. If you've wanted to play things like Doom 3 or Farcry, then this is the machine to use.

Data Storage

The Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX comes with 1 TB of hard drive space. This is getting to be very common in these high-end systems - just look at the Dell Dimension XPS 600. You can easily storing tons and tons of games, music, videos and what have you in that drive - and not having to worry about disk space for a long time.

Other Components

'Dual' is certainly the keyword with the Velocity Micro Raptor 64, which includes not just a dual-core processor but also dual 500GB hard drives (1TB total!) in a RAID 0 array, dual 512MB eVGA nVidia GeForce 7800GTX graphics cards in a SLI configuration, and dual DVD±RW drives.

Shortcomings

Here's one problem with the Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX system. Despite its strengths, all but one of the PCIe slots is filled with double-size 512 MB graphics cards and the Creative Labs X-Fi sound card. This can be a problem if you need more PCIe slots.

Conclusion

The Velocity Micro Raptor 64 DualX desktop is equally suited for demanding applications and hard-core gaming. It offers performance that trumps the highest-end (and much higher-priced) gaming systems and is certainly a system you want to look at if you're in the market for one.
