The HP Pavilion dv4000 strikes a good balance between office use and home entertainment.

Besides amazing theatre quality sound and wireless networking, it has globs of storage space and it priced reasonably too. On the whole, it scores big in my books and is certainly worth looking into if you're in the market for a notebook.

Let's discover more about this machine in this HP Pavilion dv4000 review.

The HP Pavilion dv4000 notebook

Design and Construction

The HP Pavilion dv4000 comes with an elegant design with a wide keyboard and silver touch pad. Visually, the device is very appeasing with its attractive black and silver periphery. It is slightly heavier (6.6 lbs) than its predecessor, the dv1000 series (5.1 lbs), but it comes with a wider BrightView screen 15.4-inch wide-screen display.

CPU and Memory

HP notebooks seldom let you down when it comes to computing applications. Pavilion dv400 comes with a 2.13-Ghz Intel Pentium M processor, 1GB RAM and a cool 80GB 5,400rpm hard drive.

Graphics

The HP Pavilion dv4000 is well equipped for graphics with its ATI Mobility X700 PCI Express module (with 128MB of dedicated memory). This high definition graphics card supports most advanced gaming options in any games you may want to play.

Data Storage

The HP Pavilion dv4000 supports great data storage options like DVD burning, Flash Card, Memory stick. Need a lot of space for your files? Well, you get a in-built 40 GB hard drive and an upgradeability option up to 200 GB.

Other Components

Some other components of the HP Pavilion dv4000 should be mentioned in this review. The notebook has built-in features like four USB 2.0 ports and 6-in-1 memory-card reader facilitating easy sharing of photos and digital media content. It also has a double-layer DVD burner that utilizes LightScribe technology. Finally, throw in a 4-in-1 flash-card reader that supports Memory Stick, Secure Digital, Smart Media and xD-picture cards. Great stuff for photography and movie or music buffs.

Shortcomings

This HP Pavilion dv4000 review would not be complete without mentioning the shortcomings of the notebook. The wireless connectivity of the dv4000 is slightly slower than its predecessors. Also, its touchpad buttons are also a bit sluggish.
