The good thing about Windows 7 which I absolutely love is its stability and speed of reinstallation. In this article, I'd like to run through with you the process of reinstalling Windows 7 into your PC without losing your precious data.

1. Overview

Let's see what we're going to do here. First, I'll run through with you some facts about Microsoft Windows 7 and its ability to ease the users' pain of reinstallation. I'll then guide you through what is called the Advanced recovery module in Windows 7, which brings you through a wizard to guide the reinstallation process. Once the Advanced recovery module is done, you'll very quickly have Windows 7 reinstalled and ready to go - with all your previous data intact.

2. Windows 7 Information

The latest version of Windows, Windows 7, is one of the best operating systems from Microsoft. Not only because of its improved user interface, features and overall performance. It's also because it allows very quick and painless reinstallation of the operating system if something happens to your setup.

The Advanced recovery module in Windows 7 allows you to reinstall Windows 7 either from a recovery image provided by your computer manufacturer or from your original Windows 7 installation disc or even a Windows 7 USB flash drive.
 

3. Advanced Recovery Methods

Ok, let's get started. First up, open the Start menu. You then type in Recovery into the search box. Hit enter to launch the Recovery window.

You can choose to use a system image you created earlier. This allows you to take a system image and refresh your PC complete. This means that everything on your computer, including Windows, programs, and all your files, with the information saved on the system image will be restored to your machine.

You can also choose to reinstall Windows. You need to supply the Windows installation disc - it will reinstall Windows on your system. Afterward that, you easily restore your files from a backup. You will lose any programs (e.g. Microsoft Office or your own games) that you installed previously. These all need to be reinstalled using their original installation discs. One good thing about Windows 7 is that any existing data you have is stored safely in the Windows.old folder on your hard disk after the reinstall completes.


4. Start The Windows 7 Reinstall

Let's assume you're going to reinstall Windows. Click on the Reinstall Windows option to start the reinstallation. You can choose to backup your files in the next step. Click the Backup now option to backup your files such as documents, videos, pictures and music to a USB, DVD or external hard disk.

Click Restart button to allow your PC to reboot and start the reinstall process.
Wait for a few minutes for the screen to appear. Then select your keyboard input method and click Next.

Windows 7 will ask you for your Windows disc. Insert your Windows 7 installation disc and then click Yes to launch the Windows 7 installing screen.

From there, just follow the simple onscreen steps to complete the reinstallation procedure. You may already know these steps when you first installed Windows 7 in your computer.

Once you've gone through the settings for your Windows 7 user account, date / time settings, etc. you have then successfully reinstalled Windows 7.

You may might want to delete the Windows.old folder during the reinstallation process by Windows to move your old installation files. Also, as a last step, you should install all your essential software programs and load in their drivers.

For some of you, it may be surprising that you can reinstall Windows 7 without having to wipe out your hard drive. Well, Windows 7 has really made it easy for users to refresh their operating systems. With the refresh, the speed and efficiency of your computer will feel like the day when you first bought it.
