The Computer Builder #040: Learn About RAM March 05, 2009 |
Welcome to this edition of The Computer Builder. In this issue, you'll learn about RAM and also how to disable automatic thumbnail previews in Windows Vista.
Term Of The WeekRandom Access Memory (RAM) - The Random Access Memory (RAM) is an important component of your PC. Your PC requires RAM in order to function. Your RAM modules must be suited to the type of RAM the motherboard supports, and is used to store code and instructions for running applications in the PC.
Tip Of The WeekHere's a tip that I implemented almost immediately in Windows Vista. By default, Vista renders almost every directory in thumbnails view. This causes performance to take a hit if you have a lot of files and little memory. To disable these automatic thumbnail previews, do the following: - Go to 'Start > Computer'. - Open the 'Organize' menu and choose 'Folder and search options'. - Choose the view tab and place a check next to the 'Always show icons, never thumbnails' option at the top. Hit 'OK'.
