The Computer Builder #038: Learn About The Motherboard
February 03, 2009

Welcome to this edition of The Computer Builder. In this issue, we'll briefly look at the term 'motherboard' and also consider how to unlock a special file selection feature in Windows Vista.

Term Of The Week

The Motherboard - The motherboard forms the backbone of your computer system. It essentially determines the type of components you can have in the PC. The choice of a motherboard also impacts the type of processor and amount of memory you can have in the system. Hence, choosing a good motherboard is a key decision you need to make when building your own computer.

Tip Of The Week

You know how you have to press Shift or CTRL when trying to select multiple files in Windows XP? Well, Vista has a special feature that enables you to select multiple files using checkboxes. Enable this feature and you will see a little checkbox next to each icon in the Windows Explorer window. Here's what you do: - Go to 'Start > Computer'. - Click the 'Organize' menu and choose 'folder and search options'. Select the 'View' tab. - Scroll down and check 'Use check boxes to select items'.
